Let's Design A More Effective IEP

Are you aware of your child’s strengths and learning gaps?

Is your child’s IEP not addressing his or her learning gaps?

Will you and your support team benefit from knowing all your child’s learning gaps?

Meet Gaptify, a diagnostic assessment designed to measure your students’ strengths and learning gaps in math, reading, and language art.

Many SPED Students’ Learning Strengths & Gaps Go Unnoticed Due to a Focus on Their Other Needs.

Special education (SPED) students have IEPs to support their learning challenges, but these IEPs don’t often address learning gaps when it comes to standards-based content. In fact, many SPED students’ learning strengths and gaps go unnoticed due to a focus on their other needs.

Diagnostic assessments that are able to specifically identify standards where students with disabilities struggle, can help parents, tutors, and teachers tailor curriculum to meet a student’s individual needs.

By pinpointing a student’s learning gaps, all stakeholders can better understand how they can help students to close these gaps while concurrently supporting their IEP goals.

Assessing Students with Learning Differences

Students who have been identified as having a special learning disability or need qualify for additional support services at school. While some parents may be hesitant to “label” their student with a disability, these supports can help students thrive.

IDEA is a federal program designed to support students with learning disabilities or disorders. To qualify for coverage under this act, a student’s academic performance must be “adversely affected” by one or more of the 13 disability categories defined by IDEA:

Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, or any other condition that hinders a student’s ability to read, write, reason, listen, speak, or do math

Obsessive-compulsive disorder, Anxiety disorder, Depression, Schizophrenia, or Bipolar disorder

Cerebral Palsy or any other condition that impacts a child’s ability to function physically

Deafness

Visual Impairment Including Blindness

Traumatic Brain Injury

Speech or Language Impairment

ADHD or other conditions restricting student’s strength, energy, or level of alertness

Down syndrome or other disabilities that significantly impact a child’s ability to communicate or socialize

Autism (ASD)

Deaf & Blindness

Hearing Impairment

Multiple Disabilities

Achievement Test for Advanced Students

While broad by definition, characterizing a student’s special needs to one or more of these 13 categories helps educators determine the course of action that might best support his or her individual needs.

The severity in which students are impacted varies immensely from child to child. Some may be able to excel in a general classroom without significant intervention, while others may require more personalized attention.

For this very reason, properly assessing students with special education needs is vital to supporting their overall academic growth.
